Purse thief eludes police, collides with patrol car

Sunday evening, a woman approached a shopper at the Westfield Mall and demanded the victim give the subject her purse. She said she had a gun and was willing to use it.

The victim surrendered her purse and the suspect fled the mall. The suspect was seen getting into a red Nissan SUV by a witness. The witness was also able to get a partial license plate.

A short time later patrol personnel from the Vancouver Police Department located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled and was able to elude capture. Patrol units from the Clark County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle on NE Hazel Dell Ave. When deputies tried to stop the vehicle it again fled the scene. During the pursuit both the suspect vehicle and the pursuing patrol car collided.

The vehicle was then located in a garage at 303 NE 107th st in west Hazel Dell. Officers surrounded the house and began making P.A. announcements for the subject to come out. When she would not come out of the house SWAT was activated. Eventually the subject came out of the house and was arrested.

Crystal Lynne Schweizerhof, age 27 from Vancouver, was booked into the Clark County Jail.
