Officer Libke procession and memorial

The life of Oregon City Reserve Police Officer Robert Libke was honored Thursday with a procession that stretched miles and a service at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Libke was shot and killed November 3rd in the line of duty.  The suspect, 88-year-old Lawrence Cambra, shot and killed himself when he was shot by SWAT officers.

During his memorial, Libke was remembered for his enthusiasm for the job.  Police Chief Jim Band says Libke saved lives the day he was killed, because Cambra had set his house on fire and was threatening a neighbor when Libke drew his attention.

Libke received the Medal of Valor from the Oregon City Police Department along with three other awards.  And the state awarded him the Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice.
